Why not escape the city for the Anzac Day long weekend? Come to a benefit quiz night for the Environmental Defenders Office on Saturday April 23, and enjoy the country charm of Willunga. Stay the night, stay the weekend, or take a chartered bus back to Adelaide on the night.

After the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) lost its Commonwealth funding they now rely on your support to continue their important work. Without the financial assistance of the community, their work can't continue. The EDO does critically important work to support our environment by monitoring legislative changes and commercial ventures which threaten our healthy future.

They recently have been involved in monitoring BP's Great Australian Bight environmental drilling plan, analysing the 'tentative findings' of the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission, and worked with the environment sector to analyse and propose amendments to the South Australian government's Planning, Development and Infrastructure Bill.

All of this important work requires financial support for the trained professionals in the Environmental Defenders Office, and the EDO quiz night at Willunga on the Anzac Day long weekend will help keep the office going a little longer.

Come and compete at the quiz night in the Willunga Show Hall on your own ($20) or as a table of 10 ($200). The evening kicks off at 6.30pm with a basket supper, while drinks are available from the bar. Prizes will be from generous sponsors including Rosey's Café at Aldinga, Penny's Hill Wines, artist Sophie Dunlop, Surf Esteem, Kaz's Retro Retreat accommodation in Aldinga Arts Eco-Village, Lou's Shack, and Qik Pix.

After the excitement, banter, and camaraderie of the quiz night you can take a chartered bus back to Adelaide if you've had a few drinks. Many will choose to linger in languid luxury, stay the night at one of the bed and breakfast places in the area, and take in the local sights. I can highly recommend a walk on the beach, or exploring the ruins at Port Willunga . There are also lovely restaurants and bakeries in the area which will tempt you with their fresh food - a great way to escape the city for the Anzac Day long weekend.

Willunga is only a short distance down the road from the awesome McLaren Vale wineries, so if you stay the night you can restock your wine cellar while feeling the smug satisfaction of helping a vital community resource. If you are looking for accommodation over the Quiz weekend, Kaz's Retro Retreat will donate 20% of the value of accommodation booked to the EDO. It accommodates 5 people in three bedrooms.
