So you have been to all of Brisbane's trending cafes, all the bars and gin joints, every gallery, garden, and dating hot spots recommended. So where to now for a date with a difference? Somewhere that says you're quirky, outside the box. Somewhere which injects humour and individuality into a stagnating, bland romance.



You will be pleased to know Brisbane is full of eccentric places to go from a cemetery to a bird hide to re-kindle your odd ball flame. Here are five to whet your appetite.

City Hopper
If your idea of romance is a boat cruise with the sun setting over the city, but you are put off by the price tag, head into the city and jump on board one of the free City Hopper ferries. They meander slowly up and down the river so it's a great way to lazily sit and talk for an hour or two. Best of all you can hop off wherever your romantic heart desires, to enjoy a walk through South Bank or a bite to eat at Eagle Street Pier, before hopping back on to sail off into the sunset.



The Hoppers run every 30 minutes between 6am and midnight, seven days a week, stopping at North Quay, South Bank 3, Maritime Museum, Thornton Street, Eagle Street Pier, Holman Street, Dockside and Sydney Street terminals. Just perfect for a date day or night.
Wynnum North Bird Hide
Pack a picnic or a thermos of soup, a rug and of course binoculars. Drive to the very end of Wynnum North Road and follow the circuit to the hide to cuddle up for a very quiet nature experience. A perfect time to visit is spring, when not only is love is in the air but the migratory birds are at their best. See if you can spot a curlew and the herons, the kingfisher and the kites.



While you're there take a detour and walk hand in hand along the nearby mangrove boardwalk. This 350m boardwalk has newly reopened and provides a canopy of tangled trees and glimpsed views over Moreton Bay to the islands.

Brisbane Clock Tower
What better place for romance to blossom then 70 odd metres above beautiful Brisbane in the newly restored City Hall Clock Tower? Let all worries slip away as you ride up in the cage lift, past the clock faces with sunlight filtering through to finally step up the narrow staircase to the viewing platform. Your special someone will be impressed with the old world charm of this gracious setting. Its enough to make you want to kiss !



The space is small and high so not good for claustrophobic acrophobes, but true romantics will love the history of this iconic Brisbane landmark. While the scene below is minute and chaotic, you feel enveloped in sandstone and time.

The clock tower is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm. Entry is free. Obtain a ticket on the day at the Museum of Brisbane reception counter on Level 3. Best to avoid school holidays if trying for romance.

Brisbane Airport
For a coffee with a unique view why not head to the International Terminal Deck at Brisbane Airport? Located just past the coffee shops on the right hand side of the top level is the viewing deck overlooking the approach of runway 01.



Alternatively, you can park on the Acacia Street Loop Road with a plate of fresh sandwiches, a bottle of iced tea and a romantic view of planes as they both taxi past and touch down. This is the official viewing area at Brisbane Airport so you may have the company of other enthusiasts. It is still a special spot to share this out of the ordinary moment with your loved one, watching the planes commence their take off and dream of a romantic holiday together.

The Loop Road faces east making early mornings the perfect time for romance, watching arrivals and departures whilst the sun rises.

Dutton Park Cemetery

And finally a date spot that will get you tingling....

After dark, when others are sipping lattes in trendy coffee bars, take your loved one by the hand and meander amongst the graves at Dutton Park Cemetery. You can take a guided tour to learn the stories of this historical Brisbane landmark. There are organised Ghost Hunts or you can set out with a hot coffee, some homemade muffins for your own spot of orb hunting. All you need is a digital camera and a vivid imagination.



Some folk believe orbs are ghostly images in the form of balls of energy, others claim it is a trick of light, dust or moisture in the air close to the camera lens at the time of the flash.

Whatever your thoughts it can be a lot of fun to capture these anomalies on film, appearing transparent or as a bright solid dancing in the darkness.
