There is so much to see and do in Ekka. Every year, the organisers surprise us with their innovations, new displays and fun events. This year is no exception and there is so much on offer. One of my big favourites is the Quilt exhibition, which this year is bigger and better and just stunning.
As I was walking around the exhibition, I heard people commenting on the quilts. They would say things like " can you believe the work that has gone into this", "do you know this was done by someone who is barely 18"," they are like works of art aren't they and lots more beside". I was pretty speechless just wandering around with my camera taking in the patterns, the sequences, the appliqués and the visuals that each one of these works offered me. I can only encourage you to go and see them. Some are for sale, other simply to admire. This is a vibrant Association of Quilters who clearly take maximum enjoyment in what they do and how they do it and no effort seems too small. There are people there who can give you more information on quilting and how you can become involved if you think this is something you might like to do, or show you around and point out some of the winners. The results of all this quilting work, is of course, shared here for all of us to admire.
The Quilts Across Queensland competition is now in its 17th year, with entries from both professionals and amateurs on display at the Old Museum during show. There are so many on display, with competitions for a number of categories, including a young quilters competition. Be amazed by what has been created and is on display.
