Drive by Merrylands Oval on July 11 and you may be mistaken for thinking we have been invaded by Hogwarts. Well, we have of sorts as it's school holiday time and Cumberland Council is flying with a brand new activity in the form of a .

This free, one-day event is run in conjunction with the Spartans Quidditch Club and is open to children aged 5-12yrs. It gives young fans the chance to learn the fundamental skills of Quidditch while dressing up as their favourite Harry Potter character.

Based on the sport made famous in the Potter books by J.K. Rowling, Quidditch has been adapted from flying brooms and enchanted balls into a 'muggle' version where two teams of players run around with broomsticks between their legs chasing, springing and dodging each other in order to catch the Golden Snitch.

It's a great way to get the kids outdoors and active and you have to pride Auburn's council on coming up with this fun and unique way to entertain the young ones. Combining elements of rugby, dodgeball and tag, this will certainly give children something magical to talk about when they go back to school.

On from 9am-4.30pm, and although free, you will need to register to secure a spot. Parents will need to ensure their child brings a water bottle and a hat.

The oval is located in Merrylands Park, Cnr Burnett St & Merrylands Rd, Merrylands.

Have a great time with friends or make new friends and keep the wizardry of Harry Potter alive.
