It's Queensland's birthday on June 6 and there are oodles of ways to celebrate during Queensland Week, May 31 to June 8.
On June 6, 1859, Queen Victoria approved and signed the Letters Patent, establishing a separate colony on Moreton Bay. It took more than a month for the news to reach the new colony and a small ship, the Clarence, sailed into Brisbane Town with the word Separation painted on its side!
Today news travels a lot faster and the
Queensland Government website is full of information, activities, awards and exciting ways to celebrate our great State's birthday. There is also a
Facebook page for all the most up-to-date information.
Families will have a fantastic day out at The Great Queensland Week Adventure Trail, you can host a Queensland themed event in your workplace, prominent buildings will be lit maroon all week and we'll welcome new Australians to Queensland at the Queensland Week Citizenship Ceremony on June 7, with more than 500 people from 70 countries becoming citizens.
Happy Birthday Queensland!
