Orchestra Announces Surprises, World Firsts and Maestros

Alondra de la Parra Announced Another Thrilling QSO Season Ahead in 2018.

What have some of the world's leading soloists, world premieres and an impressively large pipe organ got in common? They'll all be part of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra's 2018 Season. The program, devised under celebrated Music Director Alondra de la Parra, promises to be one of contrasts and surprises, all kept in time by the batons of some of the world's best conductors.

At the season launch, held in the QPAC Concert Hall on 15th August, Alondra de la Parra enthusiastically revealed what she calls a season "full of adventure". She also conducted the extremely talented QSO as they played some samples of the music to come in 2018. The audience were rapt with the sneak preview and were particularly fond of the familiar Tchaikovsky Cinderella waltz.

Some favourite events will be back for the year, including the monthly Maestro series and Morning Masterworks, condensed performances of the Maestro works that start at 11am, run without an interval and include a complimentary morning tea. There will also be two powerful Choral performances, the very popular and fun (Not) The Last Night of the Proms the annual evening of British flag waving and famous tunes and an exciting new program at Brisbane Powerhouse called Wave.

Speaking of fun, Music on Sundays will be back again with hilarious host Guy Noble at the helm. The Chamber Players will give orchestra members the chance to curate and perform some of their own favourites, with five concerts scheduled in 2018. Special events will include Alondra Conducts Mahler 3, Sergio Tiempo in Recital, and in an event celebrating what would have been Leonard's hundredth birthday, Bernstein at 100.

Listening to classical music is like taking your imagination on an adventure. We're so used to hearing it in the background of our favourite TV shows and movies. Every one of us has a subconscious appreciation and understanding of the language of classical scores. Why not appreciate some live and in person in 2018?
