Are you ready for something completely different and heart pounding? Feel like you need an adrenaline rush? Is Top Gear your favourite show? Have you ever dreamed of driving a race car? Well then you will want to head out to Queensland Raceways.

You can call them and book an experience or go online here or convince someone to buy you a gift certificate from www.redballoon.com.au.

On the day take the Cunningham Highway to Willowbank. Look for the large billboard with the racing precinct on it, turn onto Champions Way, driving to the end of the road. You will pass a drag strip, a cart track and a dirt track along the way.

Once you arrive you will check in to the office where they will direct you to the briefing room. You will be instructed on safety (their main priority for you), and numerous other tips they want you to know before you get into one of the sporty V8s.

After the briefing you will suit up, select a helmet and if, like us, you have fog delays then you will mill around for a while, getting the feel of the place, and realise your heart is pumping wildly. When it is your turn they will escort you to your car. They will strap you in, making sure all the safety harnesses and gear are in place. Your driver, who will always be in the car with you, instructs you on the final details you will need to know before you head out on to the track.

Depending on the amount of laps you purchase will depend on how long you are out there for. It will give you a chance to feel the power, learn how to maneuver a car of this magnitude and give you a chance to bring up your speed. Then when you finish your driving, you will disembark and await your turn with an actual race car driver for 3 laps or more.

The circuit, designed by Tony Slattery, with lots of input from the racing community and drivers is 3.12 kilometres long and 12 meters wide, the width of 4 cars. Running clockwise there are 6 corners on the circuit and extensive consultations helped to bring the "Paperclip" configuration into being.

Queensland Raceways hosts such events as the Formula Holden, V8 Supercars and Superbike Championships. More information regarding everything they do is on their website. If you get into it you can even volunteer with them and they do corporate events as well. You can check the online calendar for ongoing activities at the track.

Education and Training is offered in regards to Defensive Driving, Sports Driving and Race Driving amongst others.

Your money will be refunded if at the last moment you have a change of heart. It is not for all of us but for those of you who choose to go for a drive you will surely feel alive.
