This April on the Gold Coast is looking to be the perfect time to get your sexy geek on. Whether you're a film buff, closet otaku, hardcore gamer, or just generally a pop culture lover then QPOW! is for you.
April 18-28 marks ten days of absolute pop culture mania, with events happening all over the Gold Coast. In connection with the Gold Coast Film Festival 2013 held at Pacific Fair, get ready for some awesome, nerdy fun including red carpet premieres, free outdoor movies, film making master classes and the much anticipated after parties. Be sure to also check out the 'Heroes and Villains' life-size superhero sculpture display, while you're there.
Other awesome events for the week include the infamous Supanova, which will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 19-21.
Supanova is an expo where one can immerse themselves in all things pop culture covering TV shows, films, comic books and getting up close and personal with the celebrities of these pop culture phenomenons. Console games, cosplay, books, fantasy genres are also expanded on at Supanova. And don't forget to come along to the Supanova Cosplay Parade on April 21 held at the Broadbeach Mall, with over 5,500 enthusiasts, you'll see a myriad of costumes and characters from all over the pop culture universe. Tickets are $55 for a weekend pass or $30 for a day pass when purchased at the door (for kids under 12 it's free).
Dreamworld also gets in on the action, hosting 'Screamworld: Supanova After Dark' on April 20, featuring a film screening, all their rides and a DJ laser spectacular show. Tickets for this specific event are $39.99 each or $29.99 when you present your Supanova ticket.
There's just so much to do in this week, another event (amongst so many, be sure to check out their site after reading this article) will be held at The Gold Coast Arts Centre, which will be showcasing the Evangelion Anime Art Exhibition, an extensive collection of original concept and production art and character drawings where one can see how original drawings, computer graphics and animation for these films were created.
