Tickets for the second Queensland Film Festival are now available with the full program just released. This year the festival will be double the size with twenty feature films and twenty short films. The event will be held from Friday 15th July to Sunday 24th July 2016 at the recently reopened New Farm Cinemas.

The Queensland Film Festival is dedicated to screening the best of contemporary international cinema.



The opening night film is the Australian premiere of Julieta which is Pedro Almodavor's twentieth feature film. The story is adapted from three short stories by Nobel Prize winning author, Alice Munro. Drinks and canapes will be served on arrival.

The full program with trailers is available on the Queensland Film Festival website , but includes the following films:

  • Sector IXB - the controversial diary by French surrealist writer Michel Leiris
  • The Devil's Candy – hunted house in Texas starring Ethan Embry and Shiri Appleby
  • La Sapienza – Filmed in France and Italy and winner of the Asecan Best Film Award at the 2014 Seville International Film Festival.
  • The Son of Joseph – A witty exploration of the Parisian literary world.
  • Chevalier – A test of masculinity set on a luxury yacht in the Aegean Sea. Winner of Best Film at the 2015 London Film Festival and Best Script according to the Hellenic Film Academy.
  • Naked Lunch - David Cronenberg adaptation of William Burrough's novel of the same name. Winner of the 1992 National Society of Film Critics Awards for Best Director and Best Script, and winner of the 1993 London Critics Circle Film Award for Best Actress (Judy Davis).
  • The Sky Trembles and the Earth is Afraid and the Two Eyes are Not Brothers - an adaptation of 'A Distant Episode' a Moroccan-set short story by American author Paul Bowles.
  • Mimosas – an exploration of Sufi spiritualism set in the High Atlas Mountains. Winner of the Grand Prize at the 2016 Cannes Critics Week.
  • Kaili Blues – China. Winner of Best Emerging Director at Locarno 2015 and Best New Director at the 2015 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards
  • Despite the Night – France and Canada
  • The Red Turtle – from renowned Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli. Winner of the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
  • Marketa Lazarova - proclaimed the greatest Czech film ever made
  • Evolution – France. Winner of Best Cinematography at the 2015 San Sebastian and Stockholm International Film Festivals.
  • Dead Slow Ahead – France. Winner of the 2015 Locarno Special Jury Prize and Best Film and Best First Feature Film Prize at the 2015 Doclisboa International Film Festival.
  • Heart of a Dog – USA and France - Winner of the Lina Mangiacapre Award at Venice, Cinema Eyes 2016 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Score and International Cinephile Society 2016 Award for Best Documentary.
  • Cleo from 5 to 7. Set in France in 1962.
  • The Silences. Australia and New Zealand.
  • Fort Buchanan. France and Tunisia.
  • The Love Witch – USA
