It's Queensland's Birthday! Celebrating its official separation from New South Wales as an independent colony in 1859 there is no better time to step back in time at Templin Museum.

On 9 June, Templin Museum will host local history groups, heavy horse demonstrations, blacksmithing and wheelwrighting, artists in residence and food and craft stalls.

Standing in a small slab hut built in 1879 with the sunlight streaming through gaps in the wood, it is hard to believe that any family lived here, let alone a family of nine. This is just one of the treasures found at Templin Historical Village. Built by Carl Stumer, the slab hut is reminiscent of the living accommodation of the pioneers in the area.

Situated in the Scenic Rim, Templin has over the years produced dairy, grain, meat and vegetables. Run by passionate Fassifern District Historical Society Members, Templin Historical Village invites guests to step back in time and see what life was like for early settlers in the area. Spanning 10 acres, the museum showcases the area's varied history, epitomising this quintessential country town. 16 buildings have been saved and house thousands of stories, images and collections.

The site is rich with history, beginning as one of the Scenic Rim's first schools. The school was decommissioned in 1974 and the land was gifted to the Boonah Shire Council. The Templin Historical Village opened a year later.

Over time more buildings were added including the church, the CWA and the Goolman Council Chambers. Each building relates to a specific theme such as the early ward of the Boonah hospital or early schooling.

Items in the museum's extensive collection include household goods, sporting memorabilia, military items and indigenous artefacts. Ladies will love The House of Fashion that showcases items through the generations dating from the 1900s.

There's also a shed of machinery, most of which is still in working order. There's even a working wind turbine from 1923 and operational blacksmithing equipment.

Allow at least two hours explore the grounds. There are also plenty of shady trees if you wish to pack a picnic lunch.
