Queens Park playgrounds are shaded, expansive and a wonderful place to get outdoors over the winter months to warm up the children with some fun and exercise. Situated at the top end of splendiferous Queens Park, these are also Sensory Playgrounds with a variety of chimes to encourage your children in their musical abilities.

Mature trees shade these all-ability playgrounds. Your children's imaginations will be inspired as they climb, ride, spin and slide. There's a huge slide and jungle gym, a real climbing adventure. A flying fox of decent length has a safety seat. Swings come in flying saucers, thick rope twin and regular.

You have more than one slide, easy rides, fantasy furniture and pretty additions like giant lady bugs, a huge snail and climbing structures of various difficulties. Everything is contemporary and colourful including merry-go-rounds, a red train and a sand pit.

The popular Queens Park playgrounds are a marvellous place to network with other parents and to socialise children. The park itself is so relaxing just to take a walk under the trees. Upper Queens Park sports football goal posts with a large playing field.

For the disabled, there's the Liberty Swing in an enclosed space for patient and carer. Obtain a key from friendly Magnolia House (4639 3367, 9am - 5pm weekdays) or Toowoomba Bowls Club (4632 3174, 7am-5:45pm weekdays, till 3:45pm Sat), both in Lindsay St.

Also in evergreen Queens Park, the historic Buffalo-Springfield steamroller is now off limits for climbing on, but is looking refreshed so you can still admire it. It was bought by the Toowoomba City Council in 1937 and retired from service in 1956.
