Lake Mountain Family Fun Weekend starts on Saturday June the 7th and finishes on Monday 9th. The event is on the official opening weekend of the ski season ( at this stage it will be man made snow due to above average temperatures ). There will be toboggan races, snow sculpting, face painting, live music and more. Entry to the mountain is a flat $53 per car. Clothing/ toboggan hire is not cheap at $32 for a pant/jacket set and $12.50 per toboggan. If you're quick Aldi still have some clothing left as do Safeway and Amart sports if you want a cheap alternative. Facilities on the mountain are good with a cafe, nice indoor seating area to sit overlooking the ranges, great ski wear shop/ hire area and excellent staff. More info can be found here .

Wine and Wildlife @ Healesville Sanctuary is an unusual combination but is a good idea for some extra pulling power over the long weekend. Sample some of the local Yarra Valley wines from the De Bortoli range, White Box Wines and Paynes Rise Wines along with Napoleone & Co. Ciders around the campfire or watch the fake snow fall. Melbourne International Horse Trials at Werribee Park Equestrian Centre will be full of action and excitement for horse lovers and sports enthusiasts. Join the thousands of people expected to watch and cheer on some of Australia's best riders over the 4 days of action starting on Friday 6th - Monday 9th. Diamond Valley Railway - Teddy Bears Take Over on Sunday 11am - 5pm and Monday 1pm - 4pm. Children who take a teddy bear along can ride on the miniature train for free. All other passengers are $3 per ride. For more information click here .



Mornington Winter Jazz Festival will showcase some of the countries best Jazz bands and artists from around the state including Katie Noonan and her 3 piece band Elixir, Vince Jones Paul Grabowsky who features alongside The Scott Tinkler Quartet in Mornington Cinema to name a few. Performances will be held on street corners, in bars, restaurants and cafes, even the library, cinema and The Mornington Railway get a look in . Some of the shows are ticketed events others are free. Winter Wine Fest at Red Hill is one of the most popular events at this time of the year. There will 200 wines to test try from 50 wineries accompanied by some the Mornington Peninsula's finest food created by chefs from wineries such as Moorooduc Estates Salix restaurant, Max's at Red Hill Estate, Ten Minutes by Tractor, The Long Table along with many more. For something further out of town then have a look at the Echuca Steam Rally with over 700 exhibits on display including vintage machinery, cars and transport, working horses and much more. Mt Baw Baw Festival Season Opening is set to be a fun filled weekend with lots of free activities included into the price of resort entry ($45 per car booked online or $ 50 at the gate). Activities include snow yoga, snowboarding demonstrations, free kids activities and fireworks at 6:45pm on Saturday night. Lets just hope they get some from fresh snow in time for the opening. With over 200 markets being held over the Queens Birthday weekend I'm sure you will be able to find one near you by looking at this comprehensive list . Some that I would recommend include: Mornington Racecourse market on Sunday 9am - 2pm, Marysville craft market on Sunday ( if visiting Lake Mountain),



Mornington Races are always a fun family day out. Take the kids along for free activities including an animal farm, face painting, jumping castle and maraca decoration village. Pack a picnic and you have a cheap day out, so long as you don't spend it all on the horses. Adult entry is $12 and children under $15 are free.
