Hutt St. is a bit of a coffee mecca with cafes on almost every corner. One in particular, though, stands out on its own and it is the Queen of Tarts. Not just a cafe, the Queen also caters, specialising in delicious homemade finger foods, morning teas and lunches.
The draw card of this quaint small café is hands down, the owner. Don't get me wrong, the coffee is fantastic, the tarts divine and the quiche scrumptious but a small serve of Janetto's sense of humour and charisma makes the day brighter for many of his patrons. He is gracious and polite, always smiling and oh so campy.
He greets those passing by while making coffee, and chats and jokes with his clientèle as if they are all old friends hanging in his kitchen, which, well, they almost are. You leave with a smile and a desire to come back again and again. You feel as if you have been given the full treatment because you have been cared for and entertained. It's how going out for a coffee should be. He's been the Queen for about 15 years now, he does it very well and unlike anyone else. I hope he reigns for at least another 15.
