Beer and Board Games
Hidden behind a chesterfield couch displayed in the window, Queen of Spades is Melbourne's first board game café. But, this isn't your normal run-of-the-mill coffee grabbing café. The Smith Street gem sitting in the centre of Fitzroy is open late from Thursday to Sunday, serving coffee, craft beers, quality food and everything in between.
The atmosphere is gentle, best for concentrating on where to move your next chess pieces or strategising opponent takedowns in Monopoly. For only $5 per person you, and as many mates as you like, can utilise the revolving door of popular, classic and less well know board games including A Game of Thrones, Cards Against Humanity and Trouble. The bookshelf offers a multitude of cult classics like Mysterium and Ticket to Ride. The list of games on offer is available here.
During the day, the upstairs area is transformed into a popular Writers Room where budding novelists slap their fingers across their keyboards with hopes of creating the next bestseller. The room is full of light and embodies a homely feel with just the right amount of street noise to keep the creativity flowing.
Queen of Spades is multifaceted and has plenty to offer. Including cheap beer and a late kitchen, you'll find something to keep you occupied.
