The city of Queanbeyan is just a 20 minute drive from Canberra, over the border into NSW. If you are looking for new playgrounds for your kids to explore, then you could easily spend the day checking out some of the options on the other side of the border. The council has recently been doing a series of playground upgrades, with Queen Elizabeth II Park the most popular, especially in summer when the water jets are operating. The latest playground to get upgraded is Queanbeyan Park (now renamed Queanbeyan Park Central Playground), located on Campbell Road - just behind the tennis courts. My daughter and I love trying out new playgrounds, so we were excited to learn that the playground upgrade had recently been completed (on 1st June, 2018), after a whopping $250,000 makeover.

In a blur of pink, my daughter was in the car and had her seatbelt on before I even had a chance to grab my bag. After looking at the picture on the council Facebook page (below), it was fair to say that she was excited to see if it lived up to the hype.





We visited on a public holiday, which meant that the playground was absolutely heaving with families and birthday parties on either side of the park. The highlight for most kids was the brand new tower and long twisty slide, however, because of the number of kids all vying to get up the one ladder to the top, it became quite congested at the bottom. Nonetheless, kids were having a ball and most managed to stay in some form of a line, to have their turn to climb up the ladder. With a squeal and a smile, they all came out the other end - ready to go back up again.



Close to the tower was a popular little mushroom cubby house, with four little benches attached to the walls inside - the perfect spot to sit and have a pretend tea party. If you have toddlers, they will also enjoy the small mushroom table and chairs next to it, to have a snack or eat their lunch. Some of the old favourites of the previous park were still there to play on, with an open-top car and trailer to sit in, just behind.



For toddlers there was also a series of ramps to run on, two small slides, a short pole to climb up and areas to play. Another popular spot for the littlies was the merry-go-round to spin on, with new friends made along the way. There was also a net swing a short distance away, to pile onto together and wait for a mum or dad to come along and push them.





Behind the new area, under a shaded canopy, was the older toddler area with a grasshopper bouncy toy, small climbing area and swings. This area has more picnic tables for families to spread out on and a BBQ area for picnics and parties.

This playground was jam-packed with kids for a reason: they loved it! As a parent, it was good to see a playground that had something for both the smaller kids and the older kids. If you have littlies who want to go up the green tower however, it is a little tricky for mum or dad to go too (due to the single ladder up to the top), however there is also plenty of other play equipment to try if it gets too difficult. For older kids, this playground is fun to explore and having dozens of other kids there just seemed to make the experience even better.
