If you like spectacular views, luxury and a Roman pool perched on the 23rd floor, then look no further. Quay West Suites at the Rocks in Sydney is the place you need to stay at if you need a room. And did I say room? Plenty of room. At 60 square metres for a one bedroom apartment, you will have nearly twice the space as a comparative hotel room at the same price. But I did also say views. There are very few five star hotels in Sydney that can boast the views that Quay West has and those that do are horrendously expensive.
Ms Pam and I decide to 'budget' on a Quay West 'Harbour View' one bedroom apartment on the 18th floor. These look directly down the Parramatta River and have a spectacular side window view of the Harbour Bridge.
The apartment's living/dining room is expansive with a full kitchen. The bedroom also has harbour views. It is large enough and it boasts a second television. The apartment has a separate storage cupboard and a separate laundry room for long stayers. The large bathroom has both a bath and separate shower. The range of soaps and smellies is impressive.
View from the 23rd floor
Up on the 23rd floor lies Quay West's little secret. The ornate Roman Bath (or pool if you want to be boring) is outlandish. Romanesque mosaics adorn the pool with several small fish statuettes dotted around the pool area. A small gymnasium with views of the city has but one sweaty exerciser going for it. The observation deck with views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House are just stunning.
The apartments offer a great location to explore the Rocks and Sydney. It is only a 10 minute walk (albeit uphill) from Circular Quay railway station. While there are plenty of eating options, we decide to self cater as there are few restaurants in Sydney that can boast the views from our dining room.
For a very Sydney experience and for value for money, Quay West is simply the best.
