Manly Quarantine Station is a fascinating place full of history. The Quarantine Station started in the early 1830s and went to 1984. It is situated at North Head Manly. About 16,000 people passed through its doors. It served the sick immigrants and the colony.

Set in a beautiful setting at North Head with magnificent views of our beautiful harbour, the Quarantine Station has now been turned into the Q Station with lots of facilities for holidays.

The Quarantine Wander Tours run every day at 11 am. There is a shuttle bus service to take you from reception to the site. Parking is available near the entrance, very close to reception.

This photo gives a good idea of what the Quarantine Station was like when it was first built.

On this tour, you will see many of the original buildings of the Quarantine Station going back to the times of other pandemics. These killed a lot more than Covid. You will need a reasonable level of fitness to do this tour, as it includes walking tracks.

You will see the showers that were used by all the unwell passengers who came to our shores by boat.

You will also see the hospital beds where the sick and dying were attended to. It is quite amazing how it has been left in its original state. Also, the information that our guide gave us was amazing. Very knowledgeable and insightful in regards to the facts of the era and the consequences of these past pandemics. There are other tours available to the public. including a ghost tour that runs at night.

Now on a lighter note, I will show you the restaurant and other nice places within the Q Station. The Boiler Room Restaurant is the main restaurant. It is an upmarket restaurant open at weekends. There is also an outdoor cafe which is very near where the tour starts. I believe it is open every day.

There is also lovely accommodation available for guests, plus lovely nature walks. There is also a private beach and jetty where the fast ferry can pick up visitors and take them to Manly Wharf.
