Following two years of the pandemic, the annual finally returns to country as a spectacular three-day event with some of the biggest First Nations artists heading across the bay to celebrate! This year's jam-packed program of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events and art will also include a fabulous two-day music extravaganza featuring the likes of Roger Knox, Sycco, Electric Fields, Shakaya, Emma Donovan & the Putbacks and Joe Geia!
Held on Minjerribah (otherwise known as Stradbroke Island) from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th of August 2022, don't miss this opportunity to experience the continuing 20,000-year-old culture of the Nughi, Nunukul and Goenpul clans of Quandamooka firsthand. There is something for everyone! Tickets are now on sale and kids are FREE!
The festival will kick off with a stellar music program continuing right through until Sunday evening, wrapping the incredible weekend up with the Kunjiel (dance program). Adelaide electronic duo Electric Fields say, "We're really looking forward to being a part of this very special cultural celebration on the beautiful Stradbroke Island, thank you for the invitation!"
The spoils of Quandamooka talent will be showcased with performances from local musicians Sachém, Nix Grose and Maibre Grenfell. Sachém Parkin-Owens is a powerful poet, orator, rapper and singer-songwriter. Nix is a passionate and proud storyteller driven by a connection to culture & country, while Maibre is a soulful, guttural vocalist who performs punchy acoustic sets.The Saturday opening acts will be Benny Maza and Georgia Corowa from the fresh Blak music label, JMZ. Artists Keely and CKNU will also be there to deliver music straight from the soul.
In addition to the celebration of Quandamooka Culture through music and dance, there will also be bustling food and artisan market stalls, storytelling, insights into cultural heritage and caring for Country and much more!
A short ferry ride from the mainland, the festival is easily accessible from South East Queensland and is a unique opportunity to learn more about Country; the sands, seas, sacred lakes, creeks, catchments and creatures found across the Redlands and Moreton Bay islands from the Indigenous peoples' perspective.CEO Damian Miley said, "QYAC is excited to be holding the again for the first time since 2019.
