Come and celebrate with our sister city
Qingdao in China is Adelaide's most recent sister city. We have excellent trade agreements with China and particularly the Province of Shandong of which Qingdao is the main city. To celebrate the relationship between the two cities the Veale Gardens rose area will now be known as the Qingdao Rose Garden.
Despite the heat there are still roses in bloom for the open day. Image by Kat May.
A special event has been created to celebrate this coming Sunday in the garden. There will be food trucks, entertainment and the acceptance of the new statue kindly given to the City of Adelaide from the Qingdao Municipal Government. The sculpture is a replica of the one in Qingdao. The statues symbolise the union between our two cities and "the song of the wind" across the seas.
The Qingdao Rose Garden is in Veale Gardens, on South Terrace, Adelaide.
The event will be from 11am to 2pm and there will be lots of entertainment such as a lion dance, calligraphy and oriental fan workshops, and family activities. Sit on the lawn, have a coffee or something to eat and listen to the music. Free parking available all day along South Terrace and Sir Lewis Cohen Ave.
