It is not certain why Guinea Pigs are named as such because they did not originate in Guinea, nor associated with pigs, although some have said their name comes from their squeaking noise that reminded people of piglets. Guinea Pigs are actually rodents and came from the Andes Mountains in Peru. They are social animals and easily warmed to by their owners.

The QLD Guinea Pig Refuge is turning Six and in achieving this milestone of saving lives, they are celebrating with a huge fundraising Open Day at the Bald Hills Scott Den, 508 Bradken Ridge Road, Bracken Ridge on Saturday 5th October 2019. It is also a day to thank the numerous supporters who continually raise funds to cover operating expenses.

Bring the family along from 10.00am to 3.00pm for a day of fun-filled piggie love with food and drink stalls, mini-markets, jumping castle, face painting and Guinea Pig Judging Competitions. There will also be several raffles and lucky door prizes. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for more information as it nears the date.

You may fall in love and want to adopt a rescue Guinea Pig to take home.
