I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.

A calming oasis above Lorne
When you are looking for a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of Lorne, as good as that may be, why not visit an oasis of calm at Qdos Arts, surrounded by the Great Otway National Park.

A few kilometres away and up the hill from the main beach in Lorne, this is a place to regain a sense of peace and calm. Tall trees and the smell of the Australian bush as you are driving up the hill signal a place that is very different from what is happening down below at the beach.

The sculpture park with its little lake, full of water lilies, and changing sculptures, provides a welcoming starting point once you leave the car park. You have arrived at an oasis.

Musical events are sometimes staged at the sculpture park, the natural amphitheatre shape lending itself to enjoying music amongst the tall trees of the surrounding bush.

Exhibitions in the gallery space change regularly and there are also masterclasses and workshops for artists and creatives. The cafe which has indoor and outdoor space, offers delicious coffee, breakfasts, cakes for morning or afternoon tea and lunches (and sometimes dinner). The outside wood-fired pizza oven is not only able to provide you with delicious meals but also with warmth on those cooler days.

After your meal and a visit to the gallery make sure to take a walk around the property and discover more sculptures, the studio selling ceramics and the hidden creative aspects, such as broken tiles set into the stone path. Qdos also offers accommodation for couples in the "Treehouses"; luxury, reclusiveness and stillness guaranteed inside or outside on the private deck.

Qdos is also a perfect place for functions, corporate and private. Whether it be a company meeting, a wedding or a special celebration, Qdos will plan and manage it for you, resulting in an event that stands out.
