As a heritage vessel, PW Mayflower is South Australia's oldest paddle-wheeler. The single-storey vessel was built in Moama in 1884 and operated as a bottle-oh collecting bottles and carrying firewood until 1890. In 1900, the Creager family bought her for fishing purposes and installed a top cabin to live in. She was later converted into a diesel-powered passenger vessel. In 2014, with the support of generous sponsors, Mannum Dock Museum was able to purchase and restore her back to her former glory.

Today, PW Mayflower is available for 90-minute cruises along the Murray River on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We were fortunate to experience this pleasurable voyage last week, thanks to the River Revival Voucher.

After stepping on board and listening to a quick safety briefing, we headed off downstream through the beautiful river landscape. Complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate were available for guests to enjoy. We simply placed an order for our preferred drink and the purser brought it out to us in no time. The commentary was provided by the captain too. So, if you're interested in learning a thing or two, make yourself comfortable either at the stern or on the upper deck of the vessel. Do be mindful though that only four people are allowed on the upper deck at any one time and the stairs can be quite steep. As for seating, there are some inside but those who prefer the sun might want to stand on the bow instead.

Cruises depart Mannum Dock Museum (6 Randell Street) at 10:30am and 1pm. Tickets are $30 per adult, $15 per child and $25 for concession. Bookings can be made online via their website .
