Golfing and giggles on the Gold Coast
For a bit of old fashioned family fun, nothing beats mini golf, and Putt Putt Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast is definitely one of the best. It's not just for the kids either, young and old enjoy the challenge of the three courses available. Do one, do two or even do all three if you have the time. I recommend you allow half a day so you can take your time and just enjoy the fun.

The funky decor on the water course
The first course (supposedly the easiest although we still found it a challenge) is the water course. On a warm sunny day, the clear pools and water features surrounding the course are tempting as you play your way through 18 holes. My favourite part of this course is the tacky plastic flamingos, you will feel like you have been transported to Florida.

Next on the list is the jungle course. This is definitely a favourite among the smallest members of the family as you putt putt your way through obstacles like a giant bear, a zebra's legs and even a giraffe. The jungle themed music adds to the atmosphere as you make your way around the 18 holes.

Lucky last is the trick course, definitely the hardest of the three. Here you are challenged by moving obstacles and loop-de-loops that will push your mini golf skills to the limit. With a course par of only 36, it is impossible not to break into a sweat as your competitive side really kicks in.

One of my favourite things about Putt Putt Mermaid Beach is the service, which is always friendly and helpful. Plus you can take advantage of the new scoring app, so you don't have to worry about losing the tiny green pencil. Make sure you keep an eye out for the spinner challenges on each course, they offer challenges like putting on one leg or with your eyes closed so even the best putter can be thrown off guard.

As for prices, that depends on how many courses you want to play. A single course for an adult is $19, two courses is $23 and three courses is $25. Families can purchase the holiday pass for $99, valid for two adults and up to four children for fourteen days of unlimited play. Children under 3 always play free, and discounts apply if you purchase tickets online. It is worth remembering the tickets have no expiry date, so if you do not complete all three courses you can always come back.

Although the courses are outdoors, there is plenty of shade to keep out of the sun. Snacks, water, soda and slushies can all be purchased at the kiosk. There is also an arcade room if the kids get bored or need a break. There are toilet facilities and ample off-street parking. If you are really looking for something different, they also offer facilities for kid's birthday parties. Putt Putt Mermaid Beach is open 7 days a week from 9.00am to 10.00pm, and is located on Gold Coast Highway, serviced by Surfside Buslines and only 1km walk from the nearest light rail stop.
