The thought-provoking play invites an honest discussion about professional ethics and practices today.
Set in the 1990s, 'Purely Academic' is the story of a doctoral researcher who is currently pursuing a successful academic career. He knows exactly where he wants to be, and aims to get there as quickly as possible. After receiving his PhD and he rises rapidly through the academic ranks, walking over anyone and anything that stands in his way.
Invincible, he reaches the pinnacle of his career and a bright future awaits, only for his past to return and challenge him ...
Purely Academic explores both personal and professional clashes in technical collaborations and discusses the type of "persona" that is cultivated by today's academic regime. It's an engaging and entertaining play about serious issues that many of us may have experienced.
