I love an all-day brekky. It's not an extensive menu at Purdy's but there's enough variety at a cheap price to make you want to come back. It's noteworthy that what they serve is beautifully presented and delicious. They are installing their own ovens soon so you can look forward to even more Purdy offerings, including jaffles and winter choices such as soups and pasta.
My usual favourite is smashed avocado with fetta and tomatoes on a sourdough base. It is only $14 - that must be the cheapest in town! There were two other breakfasts I have my eye on for another time. The potato rosti with smoked salmon and sour cream with capers is $16 and the brushed bagel with mushrooms, goat's cheese and rocket is also $16. They both come highly recommended by other customers.
I bet I know what my daughter would pick. Sweet brioche with caramelised banana, butterscotch sauce and cream for just $12, so I can afford to take her out for brekky.
Purdy's make most of their own sweets including the delicious looking vanilla, raspberry and lemon slices. They order the pies from Ivan's - a very reputable local pastry chef.
Purdy's Cafe has a small outdoor eating area and play area for small children. While you're there, you must have a squiz at the exquisite handmade furniture and the accessories on offer at Purdy's furniture. They're open Mon-Sat 9.30-4.30.
Purdy's Furniture is a boutique furniture manufacturer specialising in quality, custom-made furniture at an affordable price. They have a two-storey showroom right next to their cabinet and polish shop. Locals will know the building from way back, although the cafe has a shorter history with this one only being opened for about 2 months.
Most of Purdy's furniture is Australian made but they stock a small range of imported pieces. They can even custom design pieces.
This is a long established family business started by a 14-year-old upholstering apprentice in 1954. The history is fascinating and can be read here.
On August 22nd 2014, the Teagle family was shocked by the sudden passing of the driving force behind Purdy's Furniture, Peter Teagle. Affectionately known as 'Mr Purdy', Peter was a furniture maker, born and bred. Together, the family, Jan, Jeremy, Natasha and the boys in the workshop have vowed to continue Peter's legacy to manufacture Australian Made, "Quality, affordable furniture".
