Training and socialisation of new puppies is an important part of introducing our adorable new four-legged friends to the world and understanding the rules of behaviour. It also helps to strengthen the bond between pups and their owners.

Many pet owners enrol their pups in "Puppy Pre-School" to get tips and advice from experts on training and behavioural techniques and for the pups to make some new friends of the same age.

Most classes offer basic training like sit, drop, the recall, mat training, stand and wait, as well as socialisation and interaction with people and dogs to get the pups onto a good footing before they explore their environments even more.

But in a time of coronavirus restrictions, most puppy pre-schools have closed their doors for face to face or (nose to nose interactions) to reduce the potential for infection among owners. So what is a playful, adventurous and curious pup to do when he can't get to school?

Well, like his human students, they can learn online through the RSPCA.

The Classes
The RSPCAs group classes are designed for all dogs from 8 to 16 weeks of age. Classes are kept at a maximum to allow for individual attention and so trainers can tailor their curriculum to meet client needs.

The classes are guided by a commitment to ensure that:
• Animals thrive in their homes by instilling a deep understanding and bond between our clients and their animals that lasts a lifetime.
• Clients have the tools and knowledge to teach their animals what is expected of them in all situations.

The course runs for one hour for four weeks and costs $151.80. Pup pawrents will need a laptop, phone or tablet with a webcam, a decent internet connection and access to Zoom. A laptop or computer with a webcam is okay. To enrol or find out more head to School For Dogs .

As well as Baby Puppy Class Online Level 1, the RSPCA School for Dogs also offers classes in :

- Foundation Class Online
- Intermediate Puppy Online Level 2
- Online Behavioural Problem Consults
