I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

Friday nights are alive at Pumphouse Sydney (image JW)
Pumphouse Sydney Bar and Restaurant is serving up a side of music from 5pm until 8pm during
Friday Night Live FNL in the summer of 2020/21. City of Sydney has initiated a response to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, encouraging live music venues to make use of outdoor spaces.

Built in 1891 to provide hydraulic power to Sydney by pumping water, the building was saved from demolition in 1975 by the Heritage Council of NSW and has been serving up craft brews and good times ever since. Its location has seen many changes over the years with the demolition of the previously adjacent Entertainment Centre and it is now part of the vibrant Darling Square precinct which connects, Darling Harbour, Haymarket and Ultimo.

The
menu is full of a range of well-priced and tasty food that complements the large selection of craft beers,
cocktails and wines on offer. The snack plates of house BBQ marmalade wings and PH guacamole perfectly complemented the
Thunderbolt Strong Ale and the Sydney summer afternoon.

Friday Night Live utilises the new courtyard which extends onto part of Darling Square. This courtyard space is soon to be doubled and will increase the number of patrons that can enjoy the live music and chilled out atmosphere on offer at Pumphouse Sydney. On December 4, the soul funk-inspired
Maybelle and
Benny were the first
FNL artists at Pumphouse and on 18th December
Hounga from
Suite Az will be on stage. The clientele on December 11 were treated to the chilled out alternative vibe of
Leroy and
Andro. Leroy's smooth vocals were hypnotic and his rendition of
Stand By Me, including rap had the audience up singing and dancing.

The pub favourites section of the menu includes schnitzel, burgers, fish & chips as well as a succulent chargrilled rump steak and a light and flavoursome Asian-inspired salmon dish. Salad and pizza lovers are well catered for as are children with five kid's meal options. Happy hour is on 4pm to 6pm on weekdays and they offer a couple of meal and drink specials to enhance your experience such as $1 beers with a schnitzel or $39 for a carafe of SOFI spritz with a pizza. Pumphouse Sydney can cater for functions but
events of fifteen people or more need to submit an email request.

The atmosphere of Friday Night Live is relaxed and optimistic and the friendly staff are as enthusiastic as the patrons regarding the easing of some of the COVID-19 restrictions. It is proving to be a popular event and necessitates a booking in order to enjoy the fun!
