Rob Mills joined me for a 'Coffee Break' to chat about his current show Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic. It's currently being staged at the Alex Theatre until 29 July, 2018. You can book tickets online here.

You're a cast member in Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic which will be staged at the Alex Theatre in St Kilda until 8 July. Can you tell me a bit about the show?
We all know of a certain boy wizard who went to a certain school of Magic and Magic, well, this is not his story. It is the story of 3 other children, Wayne, Oliver and Megan, who happened to go to the same school, at the same time. They are the non heroes, the ordinary, loveable, loyal Puffs! It's a laugh every few seconds but at its core it has a very big heart.

What character do you play in Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic and how would you describe them in a few sentences?
I play Cedric. He is the leader of the Puffs. Always there to encourage and empower the young ones and even go on his own "hero's journey" throughout the show.

It's an all-star cast in Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic, who else is in the cast?
Some of the most talented actors in the country. Ryan, Eva and Keith really hold the show together every night. They are adorable losers who we love to watch struggle through those icky and dangerous teenage years. As an ensemble piece, the rest of the actors play many roles throughout the show and their impressions are incredible.

Are you enjoying this non-singing role in Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic?
I am just thrilled to be a part of something so clever and funny. It's a brilliant piece and not having to worry about singing is great. I do still sing heaps though, in the car.

Do you think you have to be a fan of Harry Potter to see Puffs or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic?
I had a mate come and see the show tonight who didn't know much of "That World" and he said he had the best time. "Laughed my arse off", were his words. But I think it certainly helps if are a fan. There's plenty of IN jokes.

Rob, you perform with Swing On This, can you tell us more about this act?
It's basically four blokes on stage drinking scotch singing swing tunes with a giant orchestra and taking the micky out of one another. Four good mates… Michael Falzon, Luke Kennedy, Ben Mingay and myself. Oh, and Matt Lee is back from London to make it a fivesome.

Can you tell us more about your role of Finn Kelly in Neighbours?
Finn is back in Erinsborough for revenge! What started as a 4 month guest role on the show, I was asked to go back and enthusiastically said yes. I love playing the villain. Hopefully there are more storylines for Finn in the future.

Are there any plans to write another cabaret show as you had great success with Surprisingly Good?
I am slowly but surely working on a new cabaret show. I had so much fun with Surprisingly Good. I learnt a lot about performance and script writing and crafting a story.

Do you have any hobbies?
I love to play guitar, kick the footy and just go watch the footy. I love a good bush walk.

Do you have a favourite movie?

What is your idea of a good holiday?
Good friends, good wine, sun and adventures. Oh, and good tunes.

What is the last album you listened to?
ye - Kanye West

If you were stranded on a desert island, what items would you take with you?
My guitar, some chickens, and books… and water.

Is there anything which you don't you leave home without?
My diary. I still use a paper diary to schedule my days.
