[SECTION]What's it all about?[/SECTION]

The first PUBLIC festival brought artists from around the world to Perth and offered walls and other inner-city spaces for their canvas. They left a wonderful legacy of street art and a feeling that the city's future was bright. Now PUBLIC 2015 fulfils that promise with more than 50 artists coming to work in urban, suburban and rural areas in tandem with an international symposium exploring the value of creativity. From 10 - 19 April, Perth, its neighbourhoods, the Wheatbelt and the Pilbara will be bubbling with art and ideas.

PUBLIC is the brainchild of FORM , a non-profit organisation dedicated to developing and supporting creative endeavours. FORM's programs include artistic development and exhibitions with PUBLIC being an example of this on a grand scale. Not only do the artists have huge spaces on which to work, the whole process is open to view and their creations remain as an outdoor gallery. PUBLIC features a variety of free and ticked events, including tours, lectures, gallery openings and more.

[SECTION]The Art and the Artists[/SECTION]

PUBLIC 2015 features more than 50 local, national and international artists painting on 42 walls. "Walls" is a somewhat flexible term – as you read this, HENSE (USA) and Phlegm (UK) are working on the huge wheat silos near Northam.

In the Pilbara, Australian artists Beastman and Vans the Omega have just opened the Converge collaborative exhibition and mural.

Victoria Park will feature the PUBLIC Salon showing the work of 100 Australian artists while the stretch of Albany Highway running through the area becomes the world's longest open-air gallery with artists such as Argentina's Elian , Australians Anya Brock and Fieldey and others at work daily.

Perth, Leederville, Northbridge, Claremont and Fremantle will all have artists working at sites still to be confirmed.

A map will be available, or join a PUBLIC Urban Art Walk . Walks are offered twice weekly at a cost of $35. Bookings are essential. Book at [email protected] or ring 9226 2799.

As well as the outdoor works, the full program includes artist talks, exhibitions, screenings, workshops, installations and labs. Visit the website for the complete list of artists and follow the Facebook page, Twitter or Instagram for the latest news.

[SECTION]Symposium[/SECTION]

The PUBLIC Symposium will be held from 15 - 17 April. This event features local and international experts in arts, architecture, urban planning, technology and philanthropy. The Symposium sessions have an emphasis on "new knowledge, new ideas…that will inspire change and creativity". These discussions on the use of city space, citizen initiatives, art and culture will help to inform and inspire the future vision of Perth.

Tickets for the Symposium are available from Ticketek with prices starting at $570. On the third day, individual session tickets will be available to members of the community, cost to be advised. Check the website for details.
