Cheltenham East Primary School is launching their major fundraiser for the year, hoping to raise $10,000 toward the purchase of shade sails for their school playground. The public online silent auction has over 200 items on offer; all with the potential of great discounts to bidders - "no shady deals here", they promise.
The Online Auction will open for preview and registration on 4 June, with staggered closing times from 10 June until 14 June.
Schools need to do whatever they can to help reduce the risks of skin cancer. Cancer prevention strategies need to be prioritised at primary schools, and, while they do have some naturally shaded eating and playing areas for students at Cheltenham East Primary School, there is not adequate shade over the favourite play equipment areas. Hats are not enough.
The current SunSmart Program ensures that Cheltenham East Primary School implements a sun protection policy that minimises student and staff over-exposure to UV radiation, and reduces the risk of skin cancer; they would love to enhance these endeavours with shade sails over the playground equipment areas, which may cost as much as $30,000 to achieve.
There is a sneak peek album on Facebook, revealing donations such as four tickets to a Medallion Club St Kilda versus Essendon game, several private golf course offerings, travel vouchers, outdoor furniture, holiday program activity vouchers, jewellery, cleaning services, concert tickets, photography packages, and hundreds more.
Parent Committee President says, "Our school has been fundraising all of last year, and continuing this year, to raise money for double shade sails over our junior playground. Along with the generous school families and the support from the wider Cheltenham community, the funds for the shade sail will hopefully be reached this year, with well-needed shade provided to the students just before the summer sun hits us." -Anna McArtney; Parents' Committee President.
