Get maximum madness this school holiday with Rockhampton Museum of Art (RMOA) FREE activities. Located inside the exhibition space in Gallery 1, Rockhampton Museum of Art, 220 Quay Street, Rockhampton, Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan, the artists behind MAXIMUM MADNESS: Art Inspired by Mad Max, invite you to imagine what makes a perfect weapon and create it using recycled cardboard, then contribute your creation to an evolving communal display.

Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan are a Filipino-Australian artist couple currently based in Meanjin/Brisbane. Their practice spans over 20 years, across 100 exhibitions in numerous countries around the world. Their artworks are collaborative and collective in nature, often inviting public engagement in contributing to their own pieces, culminating in large-scale sculptural works.

Living between the Philippines and Australia, their work explores themes inspired by their diasporic lifestyle, the meaning of ‘home’, and the sense of belonging that one often connects with one’s own identity. These themes are reflected in their choice of materials associated with moving and travelling, including cardboard boxes, packing tape, and reclaimed materials, which also reference the resourcefulness that comes from living in a developing country.

Prototypes activity space was developed to allow the community to take part and collaborate with Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan, to give a personal interpretation of Mad Max, George Miller’s film series that redefined science fiction along the way with a complex and compelling mashup of biker, S/M, gearhead, Queer and beefcake cultures and their associated aesthetics.

This FREE event will be held starting from %%Saturday, 30 March until Sunday, 14 April 2024**, is suitable for school-aged children with their families.
