Propeller is located at 222 Queen Victoria Street in North Fremantle. It is open from 8am to 11pm every day and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It used to be an old bus garage but was refurbished into a hip and trendy restaurant that serves pizza and Mediterranean dishes and a selection of wines, beers and spirits. Propeller is a little bit hard to spot from the street. What you have to look for is a blue sea container with the word Propeller written on the side. I eventually spotted it next to Matilda's Antiques on Queen Victoria Street.

Propeller has a charming bohemian vibe to it. The average cost of a meal for two people is around $80. There are vegetarian and gluten free options, takeout is available upon request, and the restaurant is very child friendly. They can do lunch and dinner reservations for up to 12 people. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. I loved how the place was decorated. The outdoor section has tables with umbrellas and a back wall decorated with a mural. Food and drink service comes out of a sea container that has been turned into a fully functional kitchen and bar.

The inside section of the restaurant reminded me of an old sailing ship. The first thing that you see when you come inside is the restaurant's logo on the wall. I thought the circle with the two lines crossed through it looked a bit like an old steering wheel on a ship. I really liked the sea-green glass balls suspended above the tabletops in nets and the thick lengths of rope hanging in loops from the ceiling.

The staff were very friendly and professional and eager to usher us to our seats. We were there for dinner so we got grilled sour dough with French butter for $5 as a starter and the hot sausage calzone for $25 to share as a main. The grilled sourdough came with a side of radish and butter and a sprinkling of salt. The bread was crunchy and well-cooked and tasted very nice.

The hot sausage calzone came out not long after that. It came with potato, silverbeet and cheese inside it. It was the perfect size to share between two people. It was so nice our two-year-old decided she liked it more than the pizza we got her off the children's menu. We got the spiced rice pudding with yoghurt ice cream for $16 to share as a desert. It was very creamy and a sheer delight. I highly recommend it.

If you're looking for somewhere new and interesting to go for a bite to eat in Fremantle then I highly recommend that you give Propeller a go. It is an interesting and vibrant place that has already achieved great success and become one of the top restaurants in the state.
