A new show is opening in September produced by the Warrandyte Theatre Company entitled Proof.
It is a play written by David Auburn, which follows the life of Catherine, a young woman who is the daughter of Robert, a mathematical genius. Catherine cared for her father as he suffered through a long term mental illness.
After his death, Hal, an ex-graduate student, discovers a paradigm-shifting proof about prime numbers in Robert's office. The title of the play highlights both the profile of the equations being discovered along with the question of proof of whom discovered the theory.
She develops a relationship with Hal and the plot continues and follows her personal journey where she strives not to fall into her father's footsteps of denying any mathematical genius and expresses her fears of falling into her father's mental illness.
A night out with the Warrandyte theatre company is always an inexpensive and fun evening. The plays are held in the Mechanics Hall in Yarra Street Warrandyte and for the quality of the work at they produce, they are extremely inexpensive. The Warrandyte Theatre Company has also won several awards, ensuring you of a high-quality production.
Proof is directed by Caroline Shaw and Lisa MacGibbon and features Reschelle O'Connor, Michael Fenemore, Susie Kazda and Tony Clayton. A Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play, Proof is the story of an enigmatic young woman, Catherine, her manipulative sister, their brilliant father, and an unexpected suitor.
It is an old style hall and can sometimes be a little chilly, so bring a jacket, but the positive side of this is that there many of Warrandyte's famous restaurants nearby. Come earlier and have some dinner beforehand. Wine and snacks are available at great prices to enjoy throughout the play. After the play, you have the opportunity to meet with the cast.
It is a fun evening and you can feel good by supporting local actors and non-profit organisations to follow their goals.
