The lovely riverside town of Mannum in South Australia is home to a variety of birdlife, from the majestic Pelican to the tiny Blue Wren, but in the coming weeks, you will see some new birds landing in the town's main street.

An initiative of the Mannum Creative Communities group, 'Project Pelican - Birds of the River' is an exhibition featuring art and sculptures by locals showcasing both real and imagined species of birds. The displays are diverse, ranging from Steve Oatway's upcycled junk-art fantasy creatures to a paper-mache pelican in flight, brightly decorated pelicans at rest, swamp-hens, ducks and tiny blue wrens nestled in the branches of a tree.

There are also some impressive displays by children from the local kindergarten based on Aboriginal Dreamtime stories.

The majority of the displays are currently set in the garden area of the Mannum Dock Museum and at Pickleme Grandmas cafe at the Northern end of Randell Street, but are expected to grow over the coming weeks and will be on show for at least the next month, so there's plenty of time to fit in a visit.
