Project 5 is an art initiative of aMBUSH Gallery , a highly successful public arts activation that features a month long public live art exhibition, children's workshops, culminating with an Art auction. The event is also associated with the City of Sydney's annual art festival, Art & About and presented in partnership with Darling Quarter and Lend Lease. Since its inception in 2009, Project Five has activated three major precincts across Sydney – Cockle Bay Wharf, The Rocks and now Darling Quarter. Raising over $80,000 for Australian not-for-profit arts initiatives, and commissioned 28 urban contemporary artists.

This year's Volume 7 showcased 4 Australian Artists and their interpretation of urban contemporary art past the boundaries of traditional street graffiti. Part of the process began on the 18 September, where Darling Quarter's Village Green was transformed into a free open air studio.

Here is our video wrap-up presenting our featured artists Apeseven, Gemma O'Brien, Fintan Magee and Vans the Omega at the three day live art event we hosted in September on the Village Green and the process behind creating the magnificent artworks that will be auctioned on Thursday 15 October at the Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre (home of Monkey Baa Theatre) from 6-8pm to raise money to support creative youth programs. Project Five Volume 7 was also part of this year's Art & About Sydney 2015. Artists Vans the Omega , Fintan Magee , Apeseven and Gemma O'Brien took up residence for three days. Allowing the public to mingle and peruse six large scale works of art as they were being created. Painting in public is a challenge for any artist as generally artists create solo in a closed private environment. This initiative is about strengthening community ties through creativity breaking boundaries and a reminder that we are all part of a community.

Fintan Magee began drawing as a child. As a teen he was exposed to graffiti culture and began painting on walls, this love of graffiti evolved into more figurative urban imagery exploring themes of waste, consumption, loss and transition.

Apeseven is a self-proclaimed Pop Surrealist based in Sydney. His large scale works of art have graced many walls and corners of the city, featuring in close to one hundred group exhibitions since 2003, and publications including Yen Magazine, Cream Magazine and art books Rah Collective Book One and Just Another Book. This work of art below depicts life and the boundaries that confine and control us. Using the carefree nature of birds, their beauty and fragility in confinement.

Vans The Omega is a self-taught artist who has been creating art and letterform worldwide. His major artistic influences are from ancient scripts, architecture, engineering and the ideas of movement and balance. This artwork below wasn't planned ahead, but evolved from the start of the live 3 day art event. A colourful mix of geometric and multi-dimensional shapes.

Gemma O'Brien is an Australian artist specialising in lettering, illustration and typography. From small-scale calligraphic brushwork, illustrated letterforms and digital type, to large-scale hand-painted murals.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the VIP Art Auction for Charity being held at the Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre - Home to Monkey Baa .

The lend lease Darling Quarter Theatre was the ideal space for the intimate gathering of art lovers.

They had put a great spread of food and drinks, though most were only interested in the art on show.

The room was buzzing with excited guests. Everyone was keen for the auction to commence.

All auction proceeds are dedicated to the support of not-for-profit arts initiatives with 100% of the auction sales being donated to charity.

Finally the auction commenced with Anne Phillips, from Art Market Works. Anne has been a strong supporter of all seven of Project Five's Volumes.

Bids were underway and interested buyers showed interest with the flick of the wrist and some with the blink of a eye. Anne keep her hawkeye sight on the proceedings and the momentum was pumping.

Successful bidders took home the prizes. Apeseven's Artwork reached $2,700, Vans The Omega $2,700, Gemma O'Brien's DAZE $2,500. The highest bidding of the evening went for Fintan Magee's Artwork $5,800.
