Galleon Theatre Group Inc. is proudly presenting a limited season of Neil Simon's The Prisoner of Second Avenue. Running from 23 October to 2 November - 7 shows only, plus a limited seating preview!
Playing at the Domain Theatre at Marion Cultural Centre, The Prisoner of Second Avenue is a clever, touching and highly amusing look at life's struggles. It premiered on Broadway in 1971 and the 1975 film adaptation starred Jack Lemmon, Anne Bancroft and Gene Saks.
The Galleon Theatre Group production is directed by Kym Clayton and stars some of Adelaide's finest acting talent, including Andrew Clark, Sharon Malujlo, Harry Dewar, Ashleigh Merriel, Anita Canala and Leanne Robinson.
Compounded by the air-pollution killing his plants, and with the walls of the apartment being paper-thin, allowing him a constant ear-full of his neighbours' private lives, things can't seem to get any worse!
Then he's robbed, and his psychiatrist dies with lots of his money, Mel does the only thing left for him to do... he has a nervous breakdown.
It is on recovery that we come to esteem him all the more, because Mel and his wife and people like them have the resilience and the grit to survive.
Galleon Director, Kym Clayton said, "Even though this play was written around 50 years ago, it's uncanny how relevant to today Prisoner really is. The humour often comes out of pain, but aside from this, there's a lot of laughs. Funny? It's hilarious!"
