It is 1984, and Margaret Thatcher is in power, determined to take hard decisions and show leadership. The National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, and Thatcher is determined not to yield to their demands.
Enter an unusual source of support. Gay and Lesbian activists in London raise money to support the strikers' families. The Union is not sure how to respond to this – might it not be a PR disaster? Undeterred, the gay and lesbian group decides to go to Wales and give the donation in person.
Possibly the story has been embroidered a little, but it becomes a powerful depiction of a dark time in Wales, and also gives a warm and inspiring vision of people overcoming prejudices and standing together.
I don't want to do a 'spoiler" but this film (overall very good) is worth it for the last five minutes.
