Love bakery food but hate getting out of your car?
Prices Fresh Bakery Café is a locally owned chain that bills itself as Adelaide's only drive-thru bakery. If you're on your way home from work on a hot summer's day and just can't bear to face the stove, but the prospect of a dismal McDonald's dining experience doesn't exactly fill you with joy either, there is another option.
At Prices, you can pick up a range of savoury pastries (including family size pies and quiches), sandwiches or even hot chips and gravy, all from your car window. According to their website, you can also grab the paper and a carton of milk.
Apart from its drive-thru service, Prices also offers a dine-in café service where the pies are served on plates instead of in bags, thereby reducing waste. It's a great place to meet for coffee or morning tea. The inside of the cafe isn't normally too busy, but you also have the option to sit outside.
But eat in the cafe at your own peril, this reviewer warns. At the drive-thru, it's easy to order your potato pie or your turkey focaccia and just leave. If you eat inside, however, chances are you will be seated somewhere in view of the wide range of sweet cakes and pastries. And if you aren't in view of the cakes, well, you'll still have to walk past them on your way out of the bakery. With donuts, honey sticks, vanilla slices, cup cakes and muffins to choose from, it's hard not to walk out with something extra in hand.
For all its convenience and range, Prices doesn't compromise on quality. The chicken and vegetable pie comes highly recommended, with chunks of chicken mixed with gravy, plus peas, corn kernels and cubed carrot. Don't leave without trying one of their milkshakes either, although they are really more like thickshakes.

Prices can be found in three locations in northern Adelaide: in Allenby Gardens just outside the city on Port Road, Hillcrest on the North East Road and Golden Grove next to the Village Shopping Centre.
