5 Things I Hope to See in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos will be a two-part movie and a direct sequel to Sailor Moon Eternal (2021) that is due for release in 2023. The film will feature a brand-new adaptation of the Stars arc of the manga and be the final chapter of the Sailor Moon Crystal franchise. The movie was announced and a teaser trailer was revealed on 28 April 2022 during a live stream to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sailor Moon.

Since its release in 2014, Sailor Moon Crystal has tried to be a more faithful adaptation of the Sailor Moon manga, which is why I am so excited about Sailor Moon Cosmos. There were a lot of things in the Stars arc which never made it into the original anime adaptation Sailor Stars. In this article I will list 5 things that I hope to see appear in Sailor Moon Cosmos. There will be spoilers ahead for the Sailor Moon manga and anime.

1. Sailor Cosmos

Sailor Cosmos is the character I am hoping to see the most. She is a mysterious and incredibly powerful Sailor Guardian from the distant future who plays an important role in the last two arcs of the manga. The identity of Sailor Cosmos is not revealed in the manga, but it is hinted that she is the ultimate version of Sailor Moon, from a far-off future. Sailor Cosmos looks identical to Usagi, but it is not clear if she is her. There are many theories about who Sailor Cosmos might be. Some people think she is an immortal version of Usagi, others think that she might be Usagi reincarnated. Sailor Cosmos did not appear in the first anime, but was hinted at. I was so excited when I found out the new films were being called Sailor Moon Cosmos because that pretty much confirms to me that Sailor Cosmos will appear.

2. Sailor Kakyuu

Princess Kakyuu is one of the biggest characters featured in the Stars arc of the manga. Her first appearance is in Act 51, Stars 2. After her home planet of Kinmoku is destroyed by Sailor Galaxia, Kakyuu flees to the planet Earth and hides in an incense burner, which Chibi Chibi holds onto for safe keeping. Her Sailor Guardians, the Sailor Starlights, travel to Earth to try and locate her and keep her safe. In Act 54, Kakyuu reveals herself to the Starlights, and decides to join Sailor Moon in the fight against Sailor Galaxia. She uses the catch phrase Kinmoku Star Power, Make Up to transform into Sailor Kakyuu, the guardian of the planet Kinmoku. Princess Kakyuu's Sailor Guardian form was never shown in the original anime adaptation of Stars. This was a shame because her Sailor Guardian form is really unique. I really hope we get to see her transform this time around and attempt to fight back against Galaxia and not just be a damsel in distress.

3. Guardian Cosmos

Guardian Cosmos is a small female spirit and the guardian of the Cosmos Crystal. She appears only once in the final chapter of the manga as a woman wearing a tiara, dressed in a long flowing gown, and holding a staff that glows with an aura. Guardian Cosmos is one of the most powerful and mysterious characters to appear in the manga. She resides within the Galaxy Cauldron, the most powerful star in the universe, which is located at the centre of the Milky Way galaxy, at the core of the Sagittarius Zero Star. The Galaxy Cauldron is the source of all life within the Sailor Moon universe. It is an endless sea of possibilities and the source of all star seeds. I would love to see Sailor Moon meet Guardian Cosmos and learn all about the Galaxy Cauldron and its role in creating all life in the universe.

4. The Sailor Guardians Join the Sailor Animamates

The Sailor Animamates are possessed Sailor Guardians who serve Sailor Galaxia and her empire the Shadow Galactica.There are big differences between the Sailor Animamates in the manga and in the anime. In the manga they are not true Sailor Guardians, but normal beings who gave up their own star seeds to Sailor Galaxia to prove their loyalty and killed their own planetary guardians to gain their powers and assume their identities. In the anime, the Sailor Animamates were once true Sailor Guardians, who have had their starseeds removed and are now possessed by Sailor Galaxia. In the manga, there are several members who never appeared in the anime, like Sailor Lethe, Sailor Mnemosyne, Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon, Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi. The other biggest difference in the manga is that after killing Tuxedo Mask and the Sailor Team, Galaxia revives them and forces them to join the Sailor Animamates under her control. Together, the possessed Sailor Guardians attack Eternal Sailor Moon with Galactica Planet Attack and almost kill her.

5. Usagi and Mamoru Get Married

In the final chapter of the manga series, Act 60 Stars 11, after the battle against Galaxia is won, Usagi and Mamoru get married. After the wedding, Usagi reveals to Mamoru that she is pregnant with Chibiusa. It is a breathtakingly beautiful scene and a wonderful conclusion to the Sailor Moon magna series. I have always been the biggest fan of how Naoko Takeuchi wrote and illustrated Usagi and Mamoru's relationship in the manga. In this chapter, we see them in bed together, expressing their love for each other. We see them exchange vows and kiss at their wedding in front of all of their friends. My favourite part of the chapter is Mamoru's wedding vows to Usagi. He promises to always stay by her side and help protect her and the planet for as long as he is able and he calls Sailor Moon the most beautiful shining star of all.
