The realities of press freedom in Australia

ABC Radio National's Scott Stephens will chair an expert panel at Avid Reader bookstore this July to discuss the realities of press freedom in Australia. This timely conversation comes in light of the recent two raids by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on journalists including Annika Smethurst and media organisations such as the ABC.

The panel will consider questions including:
Is there really a free press in Australia?
How can we make sure that we preserve the independence of the media?
Will we know when press freedom is threatened?

What does it mean for the public interest? Join Dennis Atkins national affairs editor with The Courier-Mail, Danielle Cronin the editor of the Brisbane Times, and other media experts to discuss this important public, social and professional issue.

The event runs from 6pm-8pm. You can pick up tickets for $10.00. The event will be held in store at Avid Reader, 193 Boundary Street, West End.
