Do fun fitness activities with friends and family
Been meaning to get out there and be more physically active? The Government is on your side. The Premier's Active Families Challenge runs from 4th March to 14th April, 2013. The idea behind this Challenge is for participants to undertake 30 minutes of physical activity per day for 30 days between those dates. The days don't have to be consecutive and you can register as a family, an individual or as a group of friends. In fact all Victorians are invited, you just need to register before the 16th of March.
Why would you want to be in it? Aside from having fun and getting fitter, registration is free and with it you receive 20 free YMCA passes, 15% off at Rebel Sport, one hour free tennis court hire at Melbourne Park or Albert Reserve, one free child pass to the Melbourne Aquarium, one free child pass to the National Sports Museum and MCG Tour, as well as weekly email tips on being active and healthy eating. In addition there is an opportunity to win prizes* for registering. That's pretty good encouragement.
Primary and secondary school students can choose to nominate their school when registering for chances for their school to win prizes including Rebel Sports gift cards and sports clinics. The more students who nominate their school, the more opportunities there are for that school to win prizes.
There is a survey to fill in at the completion of the Challenge which gives participants a chance to win more prizes* including a family weekend at Anglesea Recreation Camp, 3-month Family YMCA memberships, Shark Dive Xtreme vouchers at the Melbourne Aquarium and more.
As an extra motivator to get fitter and more active it's a great idea and a popular one - more than 80,000 people participated in the Challenge last year.
