Say Goodbye to Jelly Belly and Hello to Fun and Fitness
What happens after the baby? Well besides sleepless nights, clothes that always smell of baby spew, jelly belly and aches and pains in those horrible spots.
At first, you think this is wonderful! You are at home, no work, just go with the baby's schedule and sleep when they sleep. You can be a couch potato for the first time in your life, read all those girly magazines, watch a soap or anything you like on TV without TV control wars.
But then what starts to happen is you start to get your energy back. Then you look in the mirror and you realise your face is colourless due to INDOOR syndrome and all of a sudden you start to want to get out and about and feel the warmth of the sun on your face and smell the roses. And you want to show off this gorgeous new creature to the world; both the baby and you. But what to do? All your friends are a different stages in their life and seem to have no time during the day.
You can get the jelly belly under control and graduate your brain up from "MU MU MU" to "Oh Julie, I can't wait to tell you what happened today."
And maybe start to find time to enroll in further training and put some computer skills on your bucket list while your child is in professional care. Or you can just go next door to the Mall for coffee, cake, hair design and retail therapy.
With the PRAM Walking Group, you will love both a chat and getting fit with other parents with young kids. This gives you a wonderful lift and starts your child in learning social interaction with other little ones. You can walk the hills and see the stunning views and then finish with a cuppa and a further gas bag. The group walk every Tuesday at 9:30 am at the centre at 1/520 Blackburn Road, Doncaster East.
The group is starting up again 9th of February. So you have just one thing to do. Go and get yourself a flash new pair of runners with a matching lycra outfit. Maybe you can dress the baby in matching lycra. Or is this just too much?
And you can afford to spend the money on you, because the cost to join is FREE.
And when you are feeling more ambitious, the Child Care is available so you can train your brain and revive those brain cells that went dormant with the pregnancy hormones.
I caught up with Kalli Taifalos, the Centre Manager, and she said "We have over 100 courses running at any one time. We have Vocational Education and Training, computer courses, English as a Second Language, Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) for younger learners and a large number of general interest & leisure programs as well."
I was astounded. What a hidden gem in the foothills of Doncaster.
The last time I stopped in at the centre, they had martial arts in action. These young adults said they felt it taught them true respect for their and other people's bodies, spatial awareness, and true fitness. In this day and age, when computer games are teaching the ethics of "Just hit or hurt anybody you want, they die and get up again". This is a breakthrough, and I think martial arts should be taught at all schools. It was wonderful hear.
But for you, baby steps first, call the centre, sign up, then shop for shoes, set your alarm and get out of bed extra early on Tuesday and just walk in. Make it a date for a happier you and a happier baby.
If anyone is a couch potato when first home from hospital with a new baby they must be neglecting either their baby, their partner, their home, other children or themselves. when first home with either of my 2 children I was very busy and, consequently, after 6 weeks, was back to my usual fitness level and fitted into my original clothes .This program sounds good but do not encourage 'couch potato' as normal.
