Join the mindfulness revolution

The School of Practical Philosophy's popular 'Mindfulness & Practical Philosophy Course' returns this Spring.

This enlightening course consists of 10 sessions designed to help you discover time-tested methods that lead to freedom, mindfulness and happiness. Each session will explore how we all can practice 'mindfulness' in our daily activities and achieve a state of peace by removing negative emotions from our lives.

Under the guidance of the knowledgeable School of Practical Philosophy tutors, students will uncover how wisdom leads to happiness, learn to live more mindfully with greater purpose and how to harness the power of attention.

Course Content:

Week 1: Philosophy, Mindfulness and Wisdom, why study philosophy and the nature of wisdom. The wisdom within.

Week 2: Self-discovery. Self-knowledge. Who or what am I? What is my potential in living? How may I realise that potential? These questions are as old as mankind itself.

Week 3: Different levels of mindfulness. What is our usual state of awareness? Are there greater levels of mindfulness? If so, how may we gain access to them?

Week 4: Living in the present moment, the now. What is the potential of the present moment? We will consider the power of attention to connect with the present moment.

Week 5: What is justice and injustice? What does it mean to live justly? In particular, we will look at what Plato has to say on this subject.

Week 6: How to understand and use energy well. Can we increase the energy available to us through mindfulness?

Week 7: We will consider two practical frameworks for reason. How can reason enrich our lives? How does reason help us to become more mindful?

Week 8: What is beauty? What is its purpose? Where does it come from?

Week 9: How to see unity in diversity, the common thread of life?

Week 10: How does the desire for truth show itself? How may it be satisfied?


The weekly sessions will run from:

  • Monday 24th September 2018 at 7.00 pm at Bendat Community Centre, 36 Dodd Street, Wembley and continue on Monday evening until Monday 26th November 2018.
