The Pottery Expo, down by the river bank along Yarra Street (opposite the pub in Yarra St) in Warrandyte, has been a much loved annual event since its inception in Feb 2001 by Jane Annois @janeannoisceramics, and it's great to know it's back after the year we've had! Based on the concept of the Marche de Potiers (potters market) of France where Jane has been taking small tour groups via Zeste French Tours @zestefrenchtours, enjoy our Australian version of handmade works of art from 70 studio ceramic artists from around Australia over the weekend of 27 and 28 February 2021 from 10am to 5.30pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. Entry is FREE.

You'll have guest artists - contemporary Australian wood fired ceramics artists Sandy Lockwood @slockwood737, Neil Hoffmann @neilhoffmannceramics, Rob Barron @gooseneckpottery, Su Hanna @suhanna_1 and Jann Kesby @mudibird and exhibitions of many of the Australian members of the International Academy of Ceramics IAC. Follow The Pottery Expo on Instagram, where they have links to all the ceramic artists participating in the event. Supplied here are easy links to Instagram accounts for your viewing pleasure.

There's music to soothe the soul with an all day music program for the whole weekend, and Tent Talks with Slow Clay will inform and inspire. Live demonstrations will keep you engaged and perhaps even inspire you to take up pottery if you haven't already, and Clayworks, Claytalk and Montsalvat will have clay activities for all ages, and offer children's clay workshops all weekend, and wheel throwing demonstrations for the public.

There's food, coffee and ice-cream on hand for when you get a little peckish and there are other restaurants and cafes in the vicinity as well. Dinner on site for the Saturday evening is available if you're planning on making a weekend of it, or simply want to stay on and be sociable, but bookings are required. Email - jannois@bigpond.com to book.

The following are workshops being offered by The Pottery Expo.

Tue 2 Mar from 10am to 4pm ($145) - Workshop with Sandy Lockwood @slockwood737. Living in the southern highlands of NSW, Sandy makes wood and salt fired tableware and sculptural work. She has taught and presented workshops worldwide. In this workshop, Sandy will start with an introductory slide talk about her practice. Her approach to clay is largely about retaining the soft fluid plastic qualities in both the making and firing. This approach will be demonstrated by making forms such as mugs, bowls and oval dishes by throwing and stretching clay. Some hands-on clay practice in the afternoon. Event held at Uniting Church Hall, corner West End Rd & Taroona Ave, Warrandyte. Book here.
Wed 3 Mar from 12-6pm ($145) - Workshop with Neil Hoffman @neilhoffmannceramics. Neil lives in northern Tasmania where he makes both tableware and sculptural objects and has given presentations and workshops worldwide. Neil will give a workshop with images, talks, demonstrations and some hands-on experience. Event held at the same venue as above. Book here.

There's more information to come, so please stay close very the links given to the website and Facebook, and address all your queries via the same links.

Lions Club Warrandyte will present a prize to the best presented stand. Warrandyte Riverside Market will present the Michael Hallam INCA Award for innovative contemporary ceramics. The Potters' Pot is when a favourite potter will be presented with a ceramic piece from the previous year's winner, judged by his/her peers at the Expo.

Don't forget the fabulous Cup to go! Made by exhibitors for sale at the expo, buy one for your coffee and enjoy freshly filled baguettes and ice creams from Warrandyte's cafe Now and Not Yet at the expo, delicious crepes from Stephane le Grand, and wine and beer from Hops and Vine at Warrandyte. If you've never been to the expo, you'll be pleasantly surprised at what an amazing event this is. It's tranquil and nestled in beautiful surrounds with people enjoying the banks of the river nearby.
