A cool oasis with tasty food and cold beer in Exmouth
Exmouth is a relatively hot place situated at the top end of Western Australia's Coral Coast. Luckily, there's plenty of places to cool down, including the Potshot Hotel and its adjoining restaurant, in which you can take a dip in the hotel pool while enjoying a spot of lunch, even if you're not a hotel guest.
We arrived for a day trip during a recent holiday to Coral Bay. My husband and I stayed at the hotel a number of years ago and it doesn't look like much has changed. The hotel exterior needs a bit of maintenance but don't let that put you off. Inside the restaurant is a lovely little oasis that offers a reprieve from the heat and a tasty bite to eat.
Being close to the 2pm kitchen closing time, we ordered first before jumping in the pool. From the lunch menu, I ordered the chicken tortilla wrap while my husband chose the chicken burger. It was a reasonable price at around $45 for the two main meals and two drinks, one of which was a can of beer. The dinner menu is slightly different to the lunch menu, which consists of the usual suspects, including burgers, wraps, salads and steaks. There are kids options available, plus highchairs if needed.
Our meals were whipped up quickly, which wasn't surprising given we were pretty much the only restaurant visitors. The chicken tortilla wrap was delicious – the chicken was tender, and the sauce just tangy enough to pack a little punch. It was served with a touch of salad in a warm, soft tortilla wrap and accompanied with crunchy chips.
The chicken burger was fresh and juicy and served in a soft burger bun. It had a lovely flavoured dressing, a rocket salad and was served with chips and sauce. There wasn't much left on the plate at the end of the meal, apart from the odd chip.
After lunch, it was time for another swim before we hit the road again. The Potshot Hotel has an indoor dining area, plus another outdoor dining area and bar at the back of the hotel. You can hire accommodation to suit all budgets, from backpackers to mid-range and luxury rooms and two bedroom apartments.
