For over forty years, Mem Fox’s classic book, Possum Magic has enchanted audiences. Now, Monkey Baa has created a stage show , which is returning to the stage during January in Chatswood and in Darling Quarter during the January school holidays in 2024. It will also be played throughout the year at locations in Victoria and Queensland. Catch it wherever is easiest for you.

So far, over 150,000 people have seen the stage show about Hush, a young possum who lives with Grandma Poss, who loves doing magic. She makes animals blue and pink, makes them smile and can change their size – and she can also make animals invisible – and this is where the story kicks off – the day she uses her magic to turn Hush invisible, but she can’t change it. And so this sets the classic Australian story in motion and Hush and Grandma Poss set off on a journey across Australia to find out what food will make Hush visible again.

The book is delightful, and the stage show features magic, puppetry and music, bringing the story to life for children aged 3 and over, and their families. If you want to see an Australian classic brought to life, then this is the one – and it will thrill audiences of all ages. The puppetry is combined with special effects and actors as the story dances to life on the stage, portraying this classic Australian story in a new format. Seeing so many fantastic Australian productions coming out is wonderful, allowing a range of stories and talent to be showcased across the arts scene in Australia.

If you loved the book, then this performance will be perfect for you. Enjoy the magic and capture part of your childhood as the story lives on through theatre and the book. This stage show is perfect for little ones, and it runs for fifty minutes, with no interval. Accessibility needs are also catered for – check with the theatre you are going to and find out about assisted listening, National Relay Hearing, and wheelchair-accessible seats in the theatres. If you’re going as part of an educational group, check out the learning packs for Possum Magic and all of Monkey Baa’s other productions.
