Yoghurt is a milk product that is produced through a fermentation process, using most commonly cow but also goat, buffalo or even camel milk. The reason why it is getting very popular around the Australia is because of its nutritional value, as well as its positive effect on many parts of our organism.

Yoghurt contains a big amount of a bacteria called Lactobacillus bulgaricus. Unlike other types of bacteria this one can be really beneficial for you, by stabilising the micro flora in your intestines. This will affect your digestive and immune systems, which can and will prevent sicknesses such as colds, flues and many more medical conditions.

Since yoghurt is produced by milk you will find many similarities between the two – they contain calcium, magnesium and vitamins such as B-2 and B-12. However, because of the process used to produce, yoghurt has a distinctive advantage over the regular milk – it is easier to digest. This makes it the better choice for many people, who have protein allergies or are lactose-intolerant.

A common word you will hear when mentioning yoghurt is "Probiotic". Probiotic comes from Latin and it literally means "for life". Probiotics are the type of bacteria that help improving the way your organism absorbs vitamins and nutritive substances.

Calcium is another of the main ingredients in all dairy products. It is a mineral that affects a person's bones and teeth, making them stronger. Recent studies have shown that calcium has a positive effect on your colon and can actually reduce colon cancer with more than 70 percent. The other key ingredient is magnesium. It is also a mineral, that is used against high blood pressure and and it is essential for the protein synthesis in our bodies. These two minerals are also known to improve sleeping and actually reduce depression.

Not only the yoghurt is a valuable source vitamins and minerals but it is also important for our daily intake of nutrition. With more than 15 percent of protein, little fat, and a decent amount of carbs, yoghurt is also a great way to stay fit. Studies also show it can reduce cholesterol levels, as the live bacteria in it is proven to assimilate cholesterol.

The properties of yoghurt can also be very important to children with intestinal problems. The easier absorption of proteins and minerals can be the key for your child to grow healthy and happy.

Maybe we can take a health tip from Eastern-Europe cultures. They are known for their longer lifespan and the fact that they remain healthy well into old age and the main cause of that is considered to be the big consumption of yoghurt throughout their lives.
