New Beers on The Rock
Beers on tap
As you travel through eastern Newfoundland and its rolling hills, rugged scenery, make sure to visit the Bonavista peninsula and stop at the Port Rexton Brewing Co. This recently opened microbrewery is home to their award winning beers including the Baycation Blonde, the T-Rex Porter…
Stepping inside, the bright and colourful room is a great space to chill out or participate in trivia nights on Thursdays. Further away, on the right, see the tanks, that is where the magic happens. The building went through some modifications, had its floor cut off, so everyone can witness Alicia, the master brewer in action. Closer, and right in the corner of your eye, lays the bar with several taps, ask Sonja for tasters unless you already made your choice, enjoy a pint of their latest creation…
Does the picture atop the taps look familiar? Sure, you are actually in this old schoolhouse which recently became the brewhouse. The young and devoted pair behind this new venture has special ties to the area and a genuine will to bring people together in a thriving community. They believe "there is no disagreement that can't be talked through with a good beer"… And good beer, they know how to brew some!
Alicia, the Master brewer
The Baycation blonde, the Horse Chops IPA or the T-Rex Porter… Since they opened the doors and let their beers out from the tap room, the good news spread quickly and people are flowing in!
Special batch includes : the "Nar Bitter" ESB (Extra Special Bitter), Spiced Brown Ale , the "Gardener's Gose" with coriander from their neighbours garden,"Mr. Wheaty Pants" American Wheat, "Sweater Weather" Double IPA "Ten Eighty Series" Belgian Tripel and more to come as the Master brewer is always on the quest, ready to amuse and amaze our taste buds……
Since I met them 8 months ago, the young Port Rexton Brewing Co. doubled their production, won Awards, including people's choice and, is happily flowing at well-known restaurants across the province.
What a start, and that's just the beginning!
More beers and plenty new ideas are brewing in that young company, stay tuned and follow them on Facebook, Twitter @portrextonbrew or online at www.Portrextonbrewing.com
From Schoolhouse to Brewhouse...
TIPS: Better try it yourself… at 2$ the 4Oz taster you can really sample and decide which is your favorite! If you need an excuse to visit, join the trivia night or any other event.
