The is a part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival .

.

The inaugural mussel festival is brought to you by the South Melbourne Market and Claypots Evening Star and is a chance to explore the different tastes of mussels and the way in which they can be prepared. The market restaurants Paco Y Lola, Koy and Simply Spanish are ready to cook up buckets of mussels. Fresh mussels from our local waters is a taste hard to beat. Priced from $5 a bucket, it is a cheap lunch, afternoon snack or dining option.

There are a variety of dining options where you can pop in to the various street vendors or the restaurants that are situated as part of the markets which offer alfresco dining. Sit outside, listen to New Orleans jazz and enjoy a drink.

The Port Phillip Mussel Festival is about fresh mussels as well as being laid back and listening to live music whilst enjoying the hive of activity that is the South Melbourne Market.

The Festival, is to be held over two days on Saturday 8th March till Sunday 9th March from 12 noon and will be abuzz with music to entertain till 11pm. So get down and pick up your bucket of mussels and enjoy the street party of the festival. Entry to the festival is free.
