Ask my then 3 year old her favourite place in Singapore and she'll eagerly tell you all about the 'pirate ship'. If I even mention a boat, she'll ask if we can go back to the 'pirate ship' - by this she means the Port of Lost Wonder.

It's a water play park, but so much more! The supervision on the slides is great, though parents are to stay with those toddlers in the water. My kids spent 4 hours there, and barely did any of the activities on offer. The slides and sprays provide ample entertainment.

There is a coffee shop with full view of the water play area, story time was offered twice while we were there, as well as some educational gardening and animal talks. There are also picnic tables from which to supervise those in the water.

One word of warning. Entry shuts at 4.30, while the park itself shuts at 6.30. We turned up too late and there were inconsolable tears. Fortunately we could rearrange the next day to return.

My daughter is still carrying around her pirate sack of Curios, the coins that can be earned and traded for toys - though for us, they're not only a great source of imaginative play, but the perfect souvenir of a wonderful afternoon and escape from the heat.
